Tahoe Update

Greetings Fellow Life Travelers:

Festivities continue, this week in San Francisco for Guide Dogs for the Blind benefit luncheon at the St. Francis.  First time since covid.  Always a hit, not only to hear about all the great work they do, but to see the puppies that are going to their ‘raisers’ for the first year.  Union Square looked quite festive, and the hotel doing its best with the on-going strike. I got a little preview of the fabulous new restaurant and heard about another one and a speakeasy, all ready to open once the strike is over.

First experience for me after all the years at Tahoe.  Headed out to Bay Area on Thursday about 12:20. Got stopped at West exit for chain control.  Was there for an hour before they routed us back down toward Donner Lake as a number of accidents closed down the road.  Best laid plans.  So back home with Dancer, semi unpacked (do not like driving in the dark, so no chance to leave after about 2), and up at 5AM for our fun event in San Francisco.  It’s really been recent years with all the increased traffic, especially trucks, that we’ve had so many road closures.  When a passenger car crashes, it usually doesn’t involve all lanes on the highway; when a semi jackknifes, that’s IT until the tow trucks can get there to remove the offender.  The saga continued with a 2-hr trip between Yuba Gab and Truckee on the way home.  Amazing as the pavement was wet in places, dry in other.  A mess!   So, on to what happened in real estate this week.

Residential Real Estate – week 12/7 – 12/13

  • Tahoe Sierra MLS – North/West Shores & Truckee.  New Listings – 21; Escrows – 10; Solds – 19
  • Incline Village/Crystal Bay MLS.  New Listings – 5; Escrows – 1; Solds – 11
  • East Shore, NV MLS.  New Listings – 1; Escrows – 3; Solds – 4
  • Reno/Sparks MLS.  New Listings – 57; Escrows – 99; Solds – 90

Things are quieting a bit more as we get closer to Christmas.  Of note this week is a Martis Camp home listed at $10.295 Million that sold for $9.75 Million, and an Incline Village lakefront listed at $49 Million that sold for $33 Million.  That listing agent is known for listing high and then selling quite a bit below ask. Works for her!

Local/Real Estate/Luxe

  • New area code for 530.  Starting on Jan 31, 2025, new phone signups in the 530 area code will be assigned 837 instead, and will still be considered a local number.
  • New restaurant in Tahoe City!  Sylva, a New American bistro, is owned by chef Anrew Shimer, who has been with Christy Hill for years.  Open Thursday through Monday from 5 – 9:30 PM – family style and small plats for sharing.  www.sylvatahoe.com
  • Inner Rhythms’ Ballet Care Package brings young performers to Tahoe Forest Hospital to entertain patients.  For years they’ve been coming to the long-term care facility, but now they’re performing in the hospital itself.
  • Christmas business festivities.  So many events in the Region…too many to report!  Locally, Downtown Truckee continues its Festive Fridays from 4 – 7 PM with many shops open beyond normal closing time.
  • Court Leve, a local photo/videographer who is passionate about animal rescue, is featured in the current Truckee Chamber of Commerce TRUCKEE magazine.  In addition to his busy professional schedule, he donates a lot to the success of Truckee’s businesses and local issues with his creative filming.  And he has two rescue dogs, Oliver and Odin, who are inseparable with each other and Court!

TidBits

  • 1)  One year I decided to buy my mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift.  The next year I didn’t buy her any gift. When she asked me why, I said, “well, you still haven’t used the gift I bought you last year.”  That’s how the fight started.   2)  If you get a loan at a bank for your house, you’ll be paying on it for 30 years.  If you rob a bank, you’ll be out in 10.  Follow me for more financial advice.  3) Well of course your opinion matters.  Just not to me.  4)  Excuse me, yeah, I’d like three shots of Grey Goose, please, or would that be Gray Geese?  I want a gaggle of vodka.  Mother of Heathens.
  • Jellyfish have survived 650 million years despite not having a brain.  This gives so many people hope.  Hippie Life
  • Long ago, when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft.  Today it’s called golf.
  • I don’t know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.
  • When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of Algebra.
  • I want people to know why I look this way.  I’ve traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren’t paved.
  • Rearranging letters:  Presbyterian = Best in Prayer.  Astronomer = Moon Starer.  Desperation = A rope ends it.  The Eyes = They See.  George Bush = He bugs Gore.

  • Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.  Napolean Hill
  • I figure all any kid needs is hope and the feeling he or she belongs.  If I could do or say anything that would give some kid that feeling, I would believe I had contributed something to the world.  Elvis Presley
  • Thankfully, dreams can change.  If we’d all stuck with our first dream, the world would be overrun with cowboys and princesses.  Stephen Colbert
  • What people don’t understand about us on-time people is that we hate you because its so easy to be on time.  You just have to be early, and early lasts for hours.  And on-time just lasts a second, and then you’re late forever.  Mike Birbiglia
  • I’m really tired of people who complain about the price of everything:  $2.00 for a cup of coffee, $3.00 for coat check, $4.00 an hour for parking.  I’m just going to stop inviting them to my house.
  • There comes a day when you realize turning the page is the best feeling in the world, because you realize there’s so much more to the book than the page you were on.  Zayn Malik

Well, that’s pretty timely as we head toward the New Year!  New adventures ahead!  Have a great week, and see you next time!

Best wishes,

Trinkie
