Tahoe Update

Greetings Fellow Life Travelers:

Words cannot express how we feel and respond to the devastation in the Los Angeles area.  Those of us in the mountains maintain a vigil regarding fire danger and, as I’ve mentioned in the past, our neighborhood has joined many others in our community to establish Firewise designation.  Nothing is foolproof, but at least Lake Tahoe and surrounding mountain areas are making effort to mitigate as much danger as possible.  I understand that we have some protection in that fires not far from us have helped create somewhat of a barrier.  That doesn’t exclude the possibility of fires within the Basin and our local areas, and our agencies are doing everything they can to educate and protect us.  We have voted for Measures on the ballot to help fund resources for this effort.

There is and will be more information for sending financial assistance to numerous entities. One I support is the Realtors Relief Fund, focused on those in our industry, along with their clients, who are in need.  https://rrf.realtor/ Realtors in the affected area are included in the loss.  Hats off to all the real estate companies and individuals who are providing resources for shelter and other needs in their communities.

The parents of one of the girls who takes Dancer out during the week lost their home – not the first time in a fire. Can you imagine?  Not once but twice?  Maybe once is the worst.  The best news, of course, is surviving an experience like this with your life…not just your own, but your family including your pets and all animals.  What really makes me mad is the news that the price of rental properties has already escalated and, of course, that means any property for sale that’s viable will be more.

On that sober note, let’s get back to local biz and see what transpired this week in real estate.

  • The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases.  Carl Jung
  • I had a problem with my computer yesterday, so I call Eric, the kid next door.  Eric clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.  As he was walking away, I called after him, “what was wrong?”  He replied, “It was an ID ten T error.”  I didn’t want to appear stupid, but nonetheless asked, “An ID ten T error? What’s that?”   Eric grinned.  “Write it down,” he said, “and I think you’ll figure it out.”  So, I wrote down:  ID1OT   And I used to like Eric, the little bastard.
  • I never think of the future.  It comes soon enough.  Albert Einstein

  • Comfort can be dangerous.  Comfort provides a floor but also a ceiling.  Trevor Noah
  • We all get heavier as we get older because there’s a lot more information in our heads.  So, I’m not fat – I’m just really intelligent.  My head couldn’t hold any more so it started filling up the rest of me.  That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
  • A man who correctly guesses a woman’s age may be smart, but he’s not very bright.  Lucy Arnez
  • He asked me last night what I looked for in a relationship.  Apparently “a way out” was not the right answer.  Mother of Heathens

  • Don’t fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things.  The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions:  could have, might have, and should have.  Louis E. Boone
  • They say that drinking milk makes you stronger.  Okay, drink 5 glasses of milk and try to move a wall. Now, drink 5 glasses of vodka – the wall moves itself. Mother of Heathens
  • It’s not the most intellectual job in the world, but I do have to know the letters.  Vanna White
  • Don’t sweat the petty things, and don’t pet the sweaty things.  George Carlin
  • Instead of working for the survival of the fittest, we should be working for the survival of the wittiest.  Then we can all die laughing.  Lily Tomlin

As the Waylon Jennings/Jessi Colter song says, “Storms Never Last”, but it’s not fun going through them.  We’ll be engaged in some fashion with the Los Angeles devastation for some time.  Am sure this will bring greater awareness to all the communities we live in, reinforcing infrastructure in anticipation of combating hazard challenges.

Best wishes for a peaceful week.
