Tahoe Update

Greetings Fellow Life Travelers:

Hard to believe that schools are starting, letting us know that summer is on the wane.  For us at Tahoe, summer flies by with the speed of lightening, even though we have glorious fall days through October.  To be safe, it’s chancy to plant flowers before the second week in June, so landscaping doesn’t really flourish until June is well under way.  Social events, outdoor music and Truckee Thursdays all come to a close by mid-to-end of August.  Once winter sets in, it’s in for months, usually a boon for the ski business.  That’s life in the Sierra!  People ask if I get tired of winters.  Having been here so long, I have a full-blown office in my house, eliminating the need to venture into the elements on a regular basis.  It’s been years since I’ve had a request to show in a snowstorm!  With all the technical advances, processing paperwork is efficient and smooth regardless of weather and location.  And, as of the 17th, we’re into a new world of selling real estate with new parameters regarding offering and payment of commissions.  Please call if you have any questions regarding this.  Now let’s see what happened in real estate this last week.

Residential Real Estate – week 08/10 – 08/16

  • Tahoe Sierra MLS – North/West Shores & Truckee. New Listings – 29; Escrows – 26; Solds – 26
  • Incline Village/Crystal Bay MLS.  New Listings – 6; Escrows – 7; Solds – 3
  • East Shore, NV MLS.  New Listings – 6; Escrows – 6; Solds – 4
  • Reno/Sparks MLS.  New Listings – 127; Escrows – 127; Solds – 86

Only significant list or sales activity was a new lakefront listing on the North Shore at $17.5M and a lakefront sale on the West Shore at $15,986,890.  No idea how that number was established!

Local/Real Estate/Luxe

  • Wild West Fest.  Live music, pony rides, equestrian performances and more – Saturday, Aug 31, 4:30 – 7:30PM.  Info and tix – www.tahoedonner.com/wildwestfest
  • Tahoe Psychedelic Society.  Promoting mental health and personal growth through community and altered states of consciousness.  Check it out.  www.tahoepsychedelic.org
  • North Lake Tahoe Historical Society.  Upcoming 2-day performance by “Live History”, a theater company that specializes in bringing local history to life.  5:00PM on Sept             .  www.northtahoemuseums.org  The Gatekeeps museum in Tahoe City has made many improvements, including a restoration program for the Watson Cabin.
  • Rents less than buying in some cities, including San Francisco and Los Angeles.  For small homes – 1 and 2 bedrooms, it’s cheaper to rent by about $1000/month than to buy.  Realtor.com
  • Maine Lakes.  Big money and fancy new homes are populating Maine’s lakes, once areas way under the radar.  Peace, beauty, clear waters are fueling interest.  As always, the ‘natives’ are chagrined to lose the vintage cabins so prevalent in the past. Wall Street Journal
  • Tahoe Forest Hospital System: In a landmark development for medical imaging, Tahoe Forest Hospital has become the first facility in the United States to implement Siemens Healthineers’ CIARTIC Move. This advanced self-driving mobile imaging technology is set to transform the efficiency and consistency of surgical imaging. http://www.siemens-healthineers.com/
  • Village at Palisades Tahoe.  Alterra has its current plan on the line with final environmental documents for approval with two public meetings this last week.  Appears that little has been done to reduce impact.  Project is up for denial or approval this fall by Placer County Board of Supervisors.
  • Mr. Ed.  When Mr. Ed was tired of working, he would simply walk off the set. The horse would only respond to his trainer, Lester Hilton, and ignored his co-stars. As a result, Hilton had to be present on set at all times, issuing commands either verbally or through hand signals. Mr. Ed’s voice was kept a well-guarded secret, but it was actually provided by Allan Lane, a former cowboy star.
  • Puffing:  Here’s an interview I did last week with Caron B. Davis, a broker in Hawaii:  https://tinyurl.com/4yavjv95
