Tahoe XC Lodge Project

Creating a Vibrant Community Hub

The Lodge Project transforms a historic 1930s home into an innovative, energy-efficient trailhead facility, setting a new standard for sustainable, climate-neutral development in the Tahoe basin. This initiative expands Tahoe XC’s ability to provide affordable outdoor education and recreation for children and adults, fostering stronger connections between the community and nature. The Lodge Project is built for you.

The Lodge is a space for youth programs, trail users, and anyone seeking an inviting, affordable place to connect. It serves as a welcoming hub where everyone is valued as part of the community.

A New Location for Greater Accessibility
Conveniently located closer to North Tahoe Middle and High School on Polaris Road, east of the North Tahoe bus barn, the new trailhead facility enhances accessibility for students. This location reduces the need for after-school transportation, strengthening ties between North Tahoe schools and Tahoe XC programs.

Students, parents, teachers, and participants can easily walk from the school campus to the Lodge. By reducing on-street parking, the project eases neighborhood congestion, while a shared parking agreement with TTUSD benefits larger school and Tahoe XC events.

Preserving History, Embracing Modernity
The Lodge repurposes a historic family home originally built in Rubicon Bay in 1937 and donated to Tahoe XC in 2015. Its design integrates historic materials—such as hand-adzed wall paneling, redwood end-grain block flooring, and locally milled beams—maintaining the charm of this vintage Tahoe home. Simultaneously, new structural elements meet modern standards, creating a space that is both functional and timeless.

Why the Lodge Project Matters
Revitalizing this historic home aligns with Tahoe XC’s vision of providing year-round, family-friendly, nature-focused experiences. As Tahoe XC grows, it requires a home to match.

Each year, thousands benefit from Tahoe XC’s clean trailhead facilities, affordable programs, community clinics, trail maps, and environmental education efforts. The Lodge Project offers a much-needed gathering place where community members can connect, learn, and thrive together.
