Palisades Tahoe / Tahoe City
Palisades Tahoe
Home to the 1960 Winter Olympics.
World-class ski resorts just minutes away from beautiful Lake Tahoe to enjoy the alpine village ambiance, stunning mountain views and incredible ski terrain. These two internationally-renowned ski resorts, to be connected by a Gondola in winter ’22-’23, are the crown jewels of North Lake Tahoe, each offering a unique experience.
Home to the 1960 Winter Olympics, Squaw Valley is widely considered the top mountain at Tahoe among serious skiers. It’s the second-largest ski area in Lake Tahoe after Heavenly, with 30 chairlifts over 3,600 acres with a base at 6200 feet, according to Wikipedia. Squaw Valley also offers a bustling basecamp with upscale lodging, shopping, restaurants, and nightlife in a beautifully-landscaped environment. From the village base, you can ride the scenic gondola up to the top of the mountain for swimming, hot-tubbing, hiking, and restaurant views of the surrounding high mountain peaks.
In 2012, Squaw Valley merged with Alpine Meadows, and together they offer joint access to 6,200 acres 43 lifts and over 270 trails. A local favorite, Alpine also offers exceptional mountain terrain but with a far more, low-key village scene. Currently less developed, it’s prized for its chill atmosphere and stunning mountain views.
Many of the properties in these areas are used as vacation homes, but there are full-time locals who live here as well.
