How is it different from ours?
For starters, obviously buying, selling and living in this country is different from what we experience in the U.S., but not so different that we don’t want to engage at times.
For so many, Mexico is a resort haven, one that many of our Tahoe residents
engage with in vacations but also as second homes. Focus typically is on the beach resorts. Ownership in Mexico has changed a lot, so unless you are on the beachfront, ownership should include fee title to your property. Mexico is a festive country with huge cultural focus on family. When I asked our driver in San Miguel de Allende last year about his family, he said, “we have at least 50 family members at our holiday celebrations”. The Mexican culture is happy! And very colorful! And Noisy – especially at all the religious celebrations that seem to happen every other week! Cost of living is inexpensive by our standards.
Mexico has a distinct approach that reflects their unique cultural, economic and geographical contexts. As always, there are up and down sides to moving residency from the U.S. to another country, so do your research if thinking of a permanent move. Otherwise, explore the possibilities of a diverse experience for part of the year!
