Greetings Fellow Life Travelers:
Last Saturday I attended an intriguing and beautiful Tahoe Music Alive concert – The Musubi Trio. Founder Haruka Fujii is a nationally acclaimed percussionist and marimbaists, one of the most prominent of her generation. She is the Professor of Percussion and Percussion Ensemble at San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a performing artist with Grammy Award winning Silkroad Ensemble founded by Yo-Yo Ma. Rayo Furuta, known as “The rockstar of the Flute”, and Beni Shinohara, Assistant Concertmaster of the San Francisco Balley Orchestra since 1990, complete the
Trio. These artists are top of their game! The last TMA concert for this year will be on October 11, the Yamazalde Trio of violin, cello and piano, at the Olympic Valley Chapel. www.Tahoemusicalive.org
Had a lovely lunch at Thunderbird Lodge this week with Bill Watson, Chief Executive of Thunderbird Lodge, and a couple of friends who plan to join the Thunderbird Preservation Society. Incredible Tahoe history lives at the ‘Castle’. Then I attended Tahoe Forest Hospital’s “Spirit of Giving” award celebration for Marie Cluckey, a Truckee local who has given 9,000 hours of volunteer work to the betterment of patients and the hospital in general. Can you imagine? 9,000 hours? The award has definite parameters and is not given every year…just when someone rises to the top – and certainly does not require 9,000 hours of volunteer work. One of the recipients you probably know is Billy McCullough – owner of fab now-gone 13-year Dragon Fly in Truckee – who has given so much of his talent to the Hospital starting with Best of Chef’s, a fund-raiser for the Cancer Center, that he continues to support for the Hospital. So, on to no-food news and what took place in real estate this week.

- Albion River Bridge, Mendocino County, built in 1944, is the last timber truss superstructure owned by the state of California still carrying traffic. This historic landmark has been given a death sentence that the locals are trying to fight. Beyond its useful life with failing integrity, Caltrans considers it beyond repair and potentially dangerous.
