Tahoe Update - August 30th

Greetings Fellow Life Travelers:

Our kiddos are back in school this week, and it’s raining as I write on Friday.  Focus for many is the passing of our National Treasure, Dolly Parton…a shock, at least for me.  Would that we could have Dolly Partons leading the countries in our world!  What an amazing contributor to so many aspects of positive living….guidelines for us to ponder and mimic.  Now let’s see what’s worth pondering in this week’s real estate activity.

Chase had a North Shore lakefront listed at $6.995 (down from $8.5M) go to escrow.  East Shore had a lakefront, originally listed at $7M, reduced to $6.5M, sell for $5.85M.

Local/Real Estate/Luxe

  • Per the MLS for N/W Shores and Truckee, listings under $1 Million for single-family homes run about 29% of current Actives, opening the door for more locals to purchase in our communities.

  • Huge big rig accident on Hwy 80 between Truckee and Reno, that happened a little after 10AM on Friday, closed the highway for hours, opening one lane late afternoon.  Miles of backed up cars still taking at least two hours to make the trip at 6PM.  This is the latest and maybe the longest tie up, something that is gathering all the respective agencies to address this intolerable situation that appears to be escalating.  Placer County Supervisor, Cindy Gustafson, is spearheading the investigation toward a solution.

  • From a WSJ essay on tech use:  OpenAI’s Sam Altman broadly characterized ChatGPT by age groups: College students treat it as an ‘operating system’, 20-and-30-somethings use it as a ‘life adviser’, and older people consider it a Google replacement.  Hmmm….I can identify with that!

TidBits

  • My wife never complained – until I got hearing aids.

  • US Teacher:  Our 3rd graders are learning today that men can have babies.  China Teacher: Chinese 3rd graders are earning multi variable calculus today.  This will not end well for you.

  • There is no path to greatness without hard work.  And the only person who feels like working hard for years is someone who is excited about the task.  James Clear

  • I was born with a happy heart. I’ve always tried to let that shine even during my dark times.  I’m one of those people who, even if things are not right, goes about trying to make it as right as I can rather than just lying around on my ass and wallowing in it all day.  I think, “Well, I can either do this or I can do that.”  I choose to get up and try to make it better if I can.  Dolly Parton

  • We all know mirrors don’t lie.  I’m just grateful that they don’t laugh.

  • They say machines of the future will be as smart as people.  But which people?

  • I can’t wait for tomorrow because I get prettier every day.  Mohammed Ally

  • We’re not aging.  We’re ripening to perfection.

  • It’s 6 months since I joined the gym and no progress.  I’m going there in person tomorrow to find out what’s really going on.

  • ‘Never odd or even’ spelled backward is still ‘Never odd or even”.

  • An inch of movement is better than a mile of intentions.  Keep going.

  • In order to insult me I must first value your opinion.  Nice try, though!

  • Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people.  Socrates

  • There ought to be a better way of starting the day than having to get up.

  • Rabbits jump and they live for 8 years.  Dogs run and they live for 15 years.  Turtles do nothing and live for 150 years.  Lesson learned.

  • The day they were handing out patience, I left because it was taking too long.

  • If you want the rainbow, you have to put up with the rain.  Dolly Parton

So bring out the raincoat and look for that pot of gold!  Have a great week and see you next time.

Best wishes,
