Tahoe Update - August 9th

Greetings Fellow Life Travelers:

We’re heading into the home stretch!  Book Club on Monday evening to discuss Isola, an historical novel (mostly novel) that prompted great discussion. Good read! Tahoe Lakefront Owner’s annual lunch meeting was Tuesday that brought attention to buoy removal of unregistered buoys along with a few mishaps where legit buoys were tagged for swim platforms.  Interesting rule no one has talked about -  a swim platform can be on a legit buoy for 72 hours; then it must be off the lake for two weeks.  Wonder who thought that one up?  For years owners have used one of their buoys for a swim platform or other temporary use all summer and no one was aware of this unusual rule. On Tuesday evening I attended a fund-raiser at a beautiful West Shore lakefront where the guest of honor arrived by boat, and caviar was part of the passed hors d’oeuvres.  Wednesday, I had a lovely visit with one of my friends/clients while watching our beautiful lake (her husband calls it ‘Lake TV’).  Friday and Saturday were the fabulous wooden Boat Show at Obexers on the West Shore, with the Yacht Club’s Ladies’ Lunch and Men’s Grill at separate lakefront homes on Sunday.  So now what?  The calendar is skinny this next week with one fun birthday celebration next Saturday.  Then the kids who are not already back to school will be, and that means ‘summer is over’ for many of our homeowners.  Life at Tahoe will be a little less crowded and now the conversations will be about the temperatures and ‘the feeling of fall in the air’.  So what exciting things happened in real estate this week?

Residential Real Estate – week 8/1 – 8/7  

For Tahoe Sierra, a split lakefront with acreage on the North Shore, listed for $10.7M in October 2024, now listed at $7.95M, just went pending, and a Martis Camp listing at $12.995M sold for $11.995M.  East Shore had a new lakefront listing at $13.9M, and Chase had a $7.8M listing sell for $7.525M.

Local/Real Estate/Luxe

• More students are forgoing a college degree for vocational/trade school, staying on top of AI. 

• The amazing wealth transfer of $124 Trillion is already under way.  In the next 4 years, another $70+Trillion will be generated. 

• Home prices are on a slow upward protectory, but sales momentum is weak.  Inman News

• Californians:  Pay attention to the 2026 Ballot choice labeled “Education and Local Govt. Funding” as it calls for repealing Prop 13.

• Boatworks Mall in Tahoe City:  Auction scheduled for this coming Wednesday, August 12.  It still can be saved before then, but there’s no indication this will happen.  Watch the news next week after the event.

• Funny thing about getting older.  Your memories stay young.  Your knees, however,  prefer to keep excellent records. 

• I always start the day with good intentions.  Then I get out of bed and that’s where it all goes wrong.

• Let’s not call it ‘getting old’.  I prefer ‘outliving the warranty’.

• Old Fashion Dating Habits:  1) Coming to the door to pick someone up.  2)  Trying to dress really nicely for a date.  3) Bringing flowers or other tokens of affection to the first date.  4)  Going dancing, that’s not grinding on a grimy club floor.  5)  Straightforwardly asking someone out and not calling it ‘hanging out”.
