Tahoe Update - July 12th

Greetings Fellow Life Travelers:

Tahoe is brimming with many outdoor activities and entertainment.  After being deluged with masses of teenagers drinking, disturbing and littering our beaches and causing some to be closed for the fireworks, they were cleaned up immediately by 446 fabulous volunteers. Keep Tahoe Blue coordinated the cleanup of six sites with several organizations.  This year’s haul was less than last and previous years, an encouraging sign that people are starting to pay attention to ‘pack it in, pack it out’.  Lots of concern about the impact of holiday tourism and what can be done to mitigate the negativity of unruly and too many people. So now we can enjoy a beautiful summer.  Some activities are listed below.  So far, real estate sales are ahead of last year with 492 by 7/10 in 2025 and 512 so far in 2026, with about $75M ahead of 2025.  

Residential Real Estate – week 7/4 – 7/10 

Kind quiet this last week with holiday festivities.  The single-family lakefront market is languishing a bit, especially at the high end.  Tahoe Sierra has 14 Active with 3 in escrow; Incline/Crystal Bay has 2 Active, none in escrow; East Shore has 3 Active and 3 in escrow.  We should start seeing more action in this segment of our business.

Local/Real Estate/Luxe

• Artown – Reno. In full swing with amazing arts and music for the month.  Artown

• Classical Tahoe – Incline – starts July 11 and runs through August 9.  www.Classicaltahoe.com

• Shakespeare Festival – July 3 – August 23.  Gorgeous setting and experience at Sand Harbor.  www.laketahoeshakespeare.com

• Tahoe Philharmonic – Nightz at Tahoe Opera – July 29, 31 and Aug 5 with Bartley Ranch Amphitheater on the 31st. Private home fund raising Soiree, Friday, July 17.  www.Tahoe-philharmonic.com

• Historic Excursions:  Great for houseguests!  Vikingsholm, Thunderbird Lodge, Gatekeepers Museum, Watson Cabin – amazing tours and history! 

• Spooner Summit project:  Major plan for Highway 28 before it meets Highway 50.  It will contain a large transit hub, parking for transit and trail connections to Spooner Lake State Park, and Watercraft Inspection Station. Pending USFS winter operation plans, there may be potential for vendor-provided, non-motorized snowplay in the area.

• And yet again this morning, no one was standing next to my bed saying, “Your royal highness, here is your coffee.”

• Why do we sing, “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” when we’re already there?

• Vince the Sign Guy:  1) A tombstone with a typo? Well that’s a grave mistake. 2) I finally watched the documentary on clocks.  It was about time.  3) I made a chicken salad last night.  Apparently, they prefer grain. 4)  Taking steps to overcome my hiking addiction.  I’m not out of the woods yet.  5.  The doctor said I have high nitrates, so I’m switching to day rates. 6)  Laughing out loud is forbidden in Hawaii because it’s a Low Ha State.

• If you can’t afford it twice, wait.

• The longer you stay on the wrong train, the more expensive it is to get home. 

• Becoming the best version of yourself comes with a lot of goodbyes.

• Getting old sucks.  I used to wake up feeling like a million bucks.  Now I feel more like a bounced check.

• The teacher asks Johnny, “Why does your father have a black eye today?”  Johnny shrugs and says, “Well my mum was sweeping the porch and Dad asked, ‘Are you cleaning the floor, or are you just testing the broom before you fly to your mother’s house?”  The teacher gasps, “And Then?”  Johnny replies, “And then Dad learned that a broom can reach speeds of Mach 1 when Mum is the pilot.”

• They say we learn from our mistakes.  That’s why I’m making as may as possible.  I’ll soon be a genius.

• Earlobes have no biological purpose.

• Wearing a tie can reduce the blood flow to the brain by 7.5 percent. (Witness this at ‘Tahoe Formal’ events.)
