Tahoe Update October 4th

Greetings Fellow Life Travelers:
Off into fund raising season with Big Brothers Big Sisters 25th Anniversary Gala at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. I was one of 1200 people having dinner at this amazing event, with appetizers, wine and food all donated for the cause. The room was impressive with distinctive signs pointing to appetizer stations along the walls and dinner tables set with a green and silver theme. Auction items were the main source of revenue, along with a raffle and community donation. Although no figures have been released yet, I have to believe they raised close to $1 Million. Tahoe Forest Hospital Foundation’s “Best of” fundraiser will be October 30 again at North Tahoe Event Center, Kings Beach, featuring culinary delights by local chefs paired with select wines, and all proceeds go to the Area of Greatest Needs Fund. The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is now open in Los Angeles. Seventeen years in the making and $1B spent, it opened on Sept 22 looking like a giant spaceship that just landed on earth. Reports sound like it’s a ‘must see’ and should be worth a special trip.
Mortgage rates are highest since 2023 but posted rates may not be the final number. Variables play into rates, so it’s important to have lender conversations before writing off a purchase.
Raley’s shoppers at South Lake Tahoe have raised $345,000 in the last decade for the Tahoe Fund through the $1 for Tahoe Fund’s environmental programs. The Raley’s O.N.E. store in Truckee offers opportunity to donate for local families in need.
Tahoe Resorts are starting to announce opening days, with Nov 20 the earliest so far at Northstar and Heavenly. Many will have new amenities to enhance guest experiences.
