Tahoe Update - September 13th

Greetings Fellow Life Travelers:

Summer came back after all with the 70s predicted for the next couple of weeks. We keep hearing about the big El Niño for winter, meaning we could have substantial rain or snow.  I say, “wait 5 minutes for the weather to change,” as we never really know what we’re going to get. Residential Real Estate – week 9/5 – 9/13

The high-end markets overall are quiet, with most transactions in the N/W Shores/Truckee MLS below $3M.  For Incline, most of the action - escrows and solds – were in condos this week.  East Shore had a bit of escrow action, and Reno/Sparks was strong in escrows and solds. The highest dollar amount across the board was a new contract in Incline Village listed at $8.2M. 

Local/Real Estate/Luxe

• Swimming lessons:  As a result of the Lake Tahoe otter attack last week on experienced swimmer and teacher, Lynette, she is stressing the importance in the critical skill of being a confident, competent swimmer.  Our world is 70% water, so engaging in water can happen in unexpected circumstances.  In addition to adults, her message is to expose young children as early as possible to the skill of learning how to swim and surviving its potential hazards. 

• Best Lobster Roll.  If traveling south, visit this unusual museum-restaurant, Green Dragon Tavern, in Carlsbad.  This enclave of early American history serves coastal California-meets-New-England cuisine.

• When I was a kid, there were two ways to die: Natural causes and talking back to my parents.

• Not sure what season it is.  I saw pallets of watermelon, Hallowe’en candy, pool floaties, firewood and Christmas lights at the store yesterday.

• Facial recognition software can pick a person out of a crowd, but the vending machine at work can’t recognize a dollar bill with a bent corner.

• When we understand that each day isn’t one more day but one less, we start giving more value to what truly matters. 

• A man is suing Smart Water for not making him smart.  I’d like to formally announce my lawsuit against Thin Mints. 

• Why do we say, “Slept like a baby?”  Babies wake up every two hours crying.  I want to sleep like my cat – 14 hours, no responsibilities, zero regrets.

• I cannot be friends with money anymore.  We both leave the house at the same time, but it’s only me coming back home.

• My parents spanked me as a child.  As a result I now suffer from a psychological condition known as Respect for Others.
