Town of Truckee Officially Named a Clean California Community

Clean California has announced that the Town of Truckee has officially been recognized as a “Clean California Community” through Caltrans’ statewide Clean CA initiative — one of just 30 communities in California to receive this distinction.

This honor reflects Truckee’s leadership in reducing litter, enhancing public spaces, and fostering community pride, as well as its commitment to California’s Zero Litter movement, which aims to keep communities across the state clean, healthy, and beautiful.

To earn this designation, Truckee met more than 10 of 15 Clean California criteria, including:

  • Hosting community cleanups such as Truckee Litter Corps and Truckee Day
  • Expanding anti-litter education and signage
  • Installing and maintaining trash and recycling infrastructure
  • Advancing beautification projects like public art and landscaping

The Town extends its appreciation to all the community members and businesses who contributed to these efforts. During the 22nd annual Truckee Day, over 720 volunteers collected more than 2.3 tons of litter. Ongoing efforts continue through the Truckee Litter Corps (TLC), which organizes monthly cleanups in collaboration with local partners.

A recent TLC event on September 20 was held as part of the Great Sierra River Cleanup and Latino Conservation Week. The next cleanup is scheduled for Thursday, October 30 — visit the Keep Truckee Green event page for details and volunteer opportunities.
